Position: Golf Grounds Laborer
Reports To: Golf Grounds Operations Manager
Status: Part Time Class 2
FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt
IMRF: Non-Eligible
Summary:
A golf course Laborer maintains the grounds and turf of a golf course in playing condition as directed by Golf Grounds Operations Manager by performing the following duties:
General Statement of Position:
Assists in all areas of grounds maintenance at Heritage Bluffs Public Golf Club.
Qualifications:
Valid driver’s license. Able to work at high levels of physical exertion. Able to take direction from supervisor and staff. Willing to work in very hot, very cold, or rainy conditions. Able to work early morning hours.
Representative Essential Job Functions:
- Maintains a positive community image for the District.
- Strives to maintain a positive environment among the District’s organizational division.
- Actively supports the Safety Policy and the Districts established loss control program, including training, safety rules and developing ideas for the prevention of incidents, while providing a safe environment for Park District staff members and patrons.
- Keeps vehicles, equipment and tools in good operating condition
- Performs all aspects of turf maintenance
- Becomes thoroughly familiar with Safety Manual contents.
- Cooperates with the Safety Coordinator in implementing all aspects of the safety polices and procedures as outlined by the Park District.
- Services tees, greens, bunkers, and golf practice areas.
- Transports equipment, materials and other items as needed.
- Plants trees and other landscape material
- Reporting of equipment issues to Golf Grounds Operations Manager & Mechanic
- Maintain and operate hose and sprinkler systems at designated points on course to irrigate turf.
Representative Marginal Job Functions:
Performs all other duties relating to the position as directed or delegated, or as may be necessary, such as:
- Shop and building cleaning
- Snow and ice removal
- Tree trimming
- Club house personnel assistance
- Park maintenance assistance
- Painting
- Washing Walls and Floors
- Cleaning Carpets
- Janitorial Duties
Position Considerations:
- Will be exposed to a wide variety of weather conditions throughout the year, including extremes of heat and cold, wind, rain, snow and humidity.
- May handle, chemicals and fertilizers, in liquid and dry formulations
- Suitable personal protective equipment frequently required.
- Lifting, digging, raking and other physical actions are aspects of the job.
Safety and Risk Management
Use material-handling equipment or staff assistance when lifting and or moving objects of 50lbs or greater.
- Promptly report any work-related or patron related injuries to supervisor.
- Correct unsafe conditions and/or report them to a supervisor.
- Becomes thoroughly familiar with the Safety Manual Contents.
- Properly orients and continues to train employees on safety procedures.
- Cooperates with the Safety Coordinator in implementing all aspects of the safety policies and procedures as outlined by the Park District.
Must be able to use personal protective equipment based on job specific tasks and may include, but is not limited to, the following:
- Safety goggles/ glasses
- Earplugs, ear covers
- Appropriate work boot
- Protective gloves
- Helmets

Education and /or Experience
Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, and individual should have knowledge of the internet.
Certificates, License, Registrations
Must have a valid Illinois driver's license.

During periods of higher level noise, hearing protection is required.
