Job Description
Position: Part Time Park Worker
Reports To: Park Foreman
Status: Part Time Class 2
FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt
IMRF: Non-Eligible
General Statement of Position:
Performs a variety of park labor duties to maintain and/or repair park properties and equipment.
Qualifications:
Must have a valid Illinois driver's license. Basic knowledge in equipment operation and experience in grounds maintenance is preferred.
Representative Essential Job Functions:
- Maintains a positive community image for the District.
- Strives to maintain a positive environment within the Districts organizational divisions.
- Actively supports the Safety Policy and the District’s established loss control program, including training, enforcing safety rules and developing ideas for the prevention of incidents.
- Keeps vehicles, equipment, and tools in good operating condition.
- Assists in construction and maintenance of new and existing playground areas and equipment.
- Performs in-house construction, maintenance, and repair tasks as directed by the Park Foreman or Full-Time Park Workers.
- Maintains a clean and orderly condition of parks and areas surrounding buildings.
- Performs all aspects of turf maintenance.
- Assists Park Foreman and Full-Time Park Workers in the supervision of other part time and temporary staff.
Representative Marginal Job Functions:
- Performs other duties relating to the position as directed or delegated, or as may be necessary such as:
- Ball field maintenance
- Trash pickup
- Tree planting and maintenance
- Vehicle maintenance/cleaning
- Snow removal.
- Shop and building cleaning
- Park maintenance assistance
- Painting
- Washing Walls and Floors
- Cleaning Carpets
- Janitorial Duties
Position Considerations:
- Exposed to weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold, snow, rain and ice.
- Exposed to various chemicals (i.e. fertilizers, weed killers, pool chemicals, cleaning agents, paints, and oil fuels).
- Protective clothing is required as follows: earplugs, ear covers, helmets, respirators, safety goggles/glasses, chaps, leather type work boots, protective gloves
- Must use good safety awareness and judgment.
- May be required to work a flexible schedule.
Safety and Risk Management
- Use material-handling equipment or staff assistance when lifting and or moving objects of 50lbs or greater.
- Promptly report any work-related or patron related injuries to supervisor.
- Correct unsafe conditions and/or report them to a supervisor.
- Becomes thoroughly familiar with the Safety Manual Contents.
- Properly orients and continues to train employees on safety procedures.
- Cooperates with the Safety Coordinator in implementing all aspects of the safety policies and procedures as outlined by the Park District.
Must be able to use personal protective equipment based on job specific tasks and may include, but is not limited to, the following:
- Safety goggles/ glasses
- Earplugs, ear covers
- Appropriate work boot
- Protective gloves
- Helmets

Education and /or Experience
Language Skills
